Chapter 1
The House by the Sea

The world around her was hot and cold at the same time. When she faced the west she could feel the chilled ocean air hitting her face and from the east she felt the hot sun beating down upon her back. The earth beneath her feet scalded and burned through her shoes and she could feel the warm haze all around her. On the hottest of days she would find herself walking along the oceans edge, pressing her bare feet into the damp sand, feeling the water rush over her toes as it loosened the sand from about her feet.
